Wow. Just wow. Forget everything you've heard about the film. The film is irrelevant in comparison to the original presentation: the animated series. Just finished the series today, and I have nothing but utmost respect towards creators Michael Dante DiMartino, and Bryan Konietzko, and the entire team involved with this fantastic series. I haven't felt this way about an animated production since 'ReBoot'. Save for the relationship between Katara and Aang (To say the least, it felt awkward and forced) I felt that the series progressed smoothly, and the character and relationship dynamics all worked out very well. Every episode was eventful and witty; fantastic storytelling. Not to mention, the climax of the show is superb. Everything comes to the boiling point, and the entire production team steps up to the plate to deliver the show a big ending in terms of sound design, direction, storyboarding, and the composition team. Episode 60 will blow you away if you make it that far. If you want a good animated series to dive into during your spare time, give 'Avatar The Last Airbender' a go. Don't let the presentation of the cartoon medium fool you, it's a fantastic tale to take in. If it helps, imagine you're viewing an extremely fleshed out Disney production. Two fantastic pieces from the show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W61G9YtkTeE&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFnnNijn_OI
I love this show! I have the whole first season on box set. I'll have to check out the other seasons too!
The problem with shows like these is that most people, I think, are watching them for the action and cool powers and stuff. However, the bulk of almost every animated show or shows based off manga is just average dialogue mixed with an average storyline. The action takes a backseat, which would be alright if the storyline was actually well written and entertaining. They are so cliche and predictable that I don't see the point on spending so much time with the storyline. It's like a porno storyline but with only 20% porn. Yeah, it's fun to watch, but it could be better.
Good series. There's supposed to be a sequel series of this show coming soon which should be pretty good.
What really grabbed me was the humour and pacing of Avatar. The reason I enjoyed this series is because it never quite took itself too seriously. Cliche and predictable? The writers acknowledge that they are treading amongst familiar grounds; they poke fun at their own creation throughout the course of the show. Fixed.
This series was a godsend to me in a world where American cartoons had been shot to shit. And of course, the thing that makes this series so amazing is the Asian influence. One of the stand-outs with A:TLE is that none of the episodes were throwaway. You didn't really have filler. There was always character development, a plot development, or introduction of important characters. The things that made the series amazing were the things that would've made the movie fail (besides M. Night himself). There WERE no throwaway characters. Everyone, everything was important in some way. Imagine the series without King Bumi or Jet. Each character leaves a lasting effect on the story. I'm excited for the spinoff. It looks to redeem the horrible atrocity that was the movie.
I didn't even know that was a misspelling haha, I was just trying to make a joke about how she's voiced by the actress who played Egg in Arrested Development.
