Next time you're complaining about songs that you download from the iTunes store, and you bitch about their protection, like being able to easily play them on a friend's computer, or not being able to put them on your Creative Zen, or Zune, don't yell at Apple. The only reason DRM is there is because the RIAA (aka the big four) is forcing it upon Apple, otherwise they refuse to license it to Apple, meaning no cigar for Apple. If the RIAA wasn't forcing DRM upon Apple's iTunes store, Jobs says there wouldn't be DRM on songs sold, meaning you could freely use the songs as you wish.

Hell, lack of DRM would probably increase music sales by a handful. Although, you know, the RIAA doesn't seem to care about what their consumers and artists think. IMO, they seem to be just after the green, as you can see by the insane amount of lawsuits. Hell, they're already screwing over the artists, why not their dedicated listeners too? I mean, as long as they get most of the money.

I would assume that Microsoft (Zune, etc) and others would follow. I mean really, who (as in company, not consumer) likes DRM and always having to patch it up when a hacker cracks it allowing everyone to free their songs?

    Thoughts?

Yeah, saw this a few days ago.

Funny response from the RIAA: They misread and thought he wanted FairPlay (which Jobs specifically stated he does not want as it doesn't work), and they issued a press release supporting him.

I really think they were just trying to avoid the whole issue and played stupid to buy themselves some time [and money].

Either that, or they're just actually stupid.

Trust me, it's that they're stupid... they completely misunderstood what he said, and it was obvious from the press release.
