    I'm sorry, I just refuse to see how the wife wouldn't have traveled into the basement in 24 years. It just defies logic.

    Very long time. Too long for someone to not notice something. SOMEONE had to notice something. Watch it turn out that he wasn't the only one going into that basement for those purposes.
