    Take a step outside
    The leaves in the greenery
    Young, strong and healthy
    Setting the scenery

    The sun in the sky
All it's heat to surround us
    Crooning perpetually
    So glad it found us

    Clouds so thin and white
    They look down from above
    Whispering in our ears
    They promise this is love

    Winds they pass us by
    The leaves stay in stasis
We vow to do the same
    We can't replace this

(And in the sunlight, surrounded by that warmth and beauty, you know everything will be okay.
You are young, you're in love, and she promised she would stay
Can't you remember, she promised forever, and that night will always be yours
To stay with you, the tears in your eyes, the taste in your mouth, the sweat from your pores)

    Please take a step outside
    The leaves are all burning
    The sun follows their lead
    Oranges and reds so unnerving

    The winds still assault
    Surrounded by shadow and flame
    We cling to one another
I smile and say your name

But the gusts take us harder
    They swallow your replies
    The leaves blow between us
    I cannot see your eyes

And the trees they are shameless
They slowly strip in plain view
    The leaves are giving up
    And maybe we should too

(You hear yourself calling out her name, again and again, into that blood red sky
And start to reassure yourself with promises and desperate pleas that you can always die
And the passion overcomes you, you embrace it, and all that matters is this second
And it burns, deep into your mind, those thoughts unwanted, unbeckoned)

    The trees sway outside
    Shivering in their nakedness
    And curled up in bed
    I mimic their wakefulness

    For I cannot step outside
    As the whiteness controls me
And seeping deep into my room
    That blankness consoles me

As only sharpness lives out there
The needles wait to greet me
And separated by a sheet of glass
    Promise to defeat me

    Heartbeats turn to flat lines
But there's no more time for crying
The leaves lay withered on the ground
Maybe it's our turn for dying
