The verses were originaly my lyrics competition entry under the title Broken Home but I decided to cut the original verse into two and add a chorus and bridge and came up with this. Enjoy. :)

    Unemotionality

For many many people life is a chore
They live their days in pain til they walk through the door
Of their own home, hoping their family is there
To greet them with love or even slightly care
About why they’ve got two black eyes
And why they’re trying so hard not to cry
Hoping they ask how come their bag has been ripped to shreds
And their clothes are hanging slashed woven threads
Why is it that they’ve got a bloody nose?
Surely they’ll ask in a warm loving home
But no, for many this is not the case
Even if the scars are so large they stretch across their face
Some people just ignore their own offspring’s pain
And carry on the same way they’ve done all day
And just drink away til they pass out
Later they wake up in a rage and they start to shout

Your child is scared, so why is it fair
That you can break your child’s mind?
The tears in their eyes, can’t you see they’re there?
    Stop yourselves in time!

    To hell with this unemotionality
    (Let your kids be free)
    Save them from yourselves
    (Let their childhoods be happy)
Let go of all your addictions
    (Release them from your mind)
    Make abuse become fiction
    (Stop yourselves in time!)

So instead of giving their child a loving kiss
They forcefully hit them with their drunken fists
And smash a gin bottle round their own kid’s head
And kick them over and over until their child’s dead
Putting an end to the kid’s struggle in life
A favour maybe but still an inhuman crime
Meanwhile the noises can be heard upstairs
Where in a room the kid’s little sister is deathly scared
She tries not to cry; she’s really trying her best
But at the same time she’s praying that she isn’t next
Until her dad walks in with a bottle of gin
And makes sure there is no next of kin

Why should they have a violent dad?
Or a boozing mum selling herself
There’s nothing but sadness because of you
You’ve made their lives worse than hell!

    To hell with this unemotionality
    (Let your kids be free)
    Save them from yourselves
    (Let their childhoods be happy)
Let go of all your addictions
    (Release them from your mind)
    Make abuse become fiction
    (Stop yourselves in time!)

    Before it’s too late
    Before it’s too late
    Never, no, never
Never will they suffer because of you

No way back from what you’ve done
(Stop yourselves from your own rage)
No way back from what’s become
    Of this once happy family
    This is your causing
    And it stops now
Before you wish you’d be dead too!

    To hell with this unemotionality
    (Let your kids be free)
    Save them from yourselves
    (Let their childhoods be happy)
Let go of all your addictions
    (Release them from your mind)
    Make abuse become fiction
    (Stop yourselves in time!)

    To hell with this unemotionality
    (Let your kids be free)
    Save them from yourselves
    (Let their childhoods be happy)
Let go of all your addictions
    (Release them from your mind)
    Make abuse become fiction

    Stop yourselves in time!
