Back in 2020, as part of the Hybrid Theory 20th Anniversary celebrations, our staff underwent an extensive three-round song ranking process which culminated in our "Top 20 of 20" listing of the best Linkin Park songs. Now that five years have passed, the band has returned, and we have new music to digest and evaluate, we felt it was time to update our rankings. Please see below our updated Top 25 of 25 rankings:
Heavy Is The Crown is honestly a surprise for me While i like the song a lot i think it isd propably the "safest" one. Would also replace Let You Fade with Up From The Bottom.
The council has spoken. Big thanks to all who voted for Burning In The Skies to be in the top 10. EDIT: Wait a minute, where's In Pieces?!
Burn me at the stake but Good Things Go, The Emptiness Machine, and Let You Fade would not crack my top 25 by a long shot Papercut getting the placement it deserves though. Glad to see With You up there too.
I haven't looked at the individual songs too much, but I think I like the album representations overal. HT, ATS, and FZ having a lot of representation suits me fine ^^ Also happy to see one THP song in there!
It's almost like the fanbase & the band have come to agree that WFTE / WTCFM / Papercut in some order are the best 3 tracks. This is... way too much From Zero in my opinion, so I think there's some serious recency bias; but the biggest question mark for me is how Powerless cracked the top 25; or even top 15 a few years ago apparently! But it's a respectable list, definitely, don't want to criticise too much.
I never understood the hype surrounding Overflow. It's a good song, but it's not even in my top From Zero tracks. Nice to see TLTGYA at the top.
For what it's worth, my personal LP shortlist is about 30 songs long and "Papercut" is not on it. Nearly nothing from Hybrid Theory, actually. "Waiting for the End", "When They Come for Me" and "Little Things" are some of the stereotypical must-haves which definitely are in my top 10
Shocked to see so many From Zero tracks on here! I'd say recency bias but it's been over a year at this point. Can't deny the chosen tracks are great though. I do feel vindicated that Papercut, APFMH, Faint are all on a higher level than the rest of the band's nu-metal era. Half of The Hunting Party got robbed, and there are a few strange choices like New Divide and Pushing Me Away. But otherwise it looks pretty similar to my tastes.
Out of all the FZ picks, I'd say TEM is a very fair inclusion. It would probably appear in a lot of top 20 and even top 10. Not even my favorite from FZ, but it is simply a track with that much impact. Overflow I'd probably include too, but not as high, maybe around 15-25. I do like HITC a lot and, from a certain angle, I could see a point for it being in a top 25 (impact, popularity, catchy hit, banger), but then probably at position 20-25. My initial hype for Let You Fade and Good Things Go "faded" a bit (sorry), both are good tracks which I definitely like, but I would probably not include them. If one had to make it through, then I'd say GTG. Also - where is Casualty?
