While Linkin Park at Rock am Ring is the famous, they have actually played at Rock im Park the same amount of times. In 2001 the band played their own slot and then later in the day filled in for Slipknot who had to cancel on short notice. 2004 was the only time the band only performed at Rock am Ring and not at Rock im Park. It was first in 2007 that the band returned to Rock im Park after their performance at Rock am Ring just the day before. 5 years later, in 2012 the band once again returned when out on the road for LIVING THINGS, having sat out the festival on the A Thousand Suns album cycle. At the show the band brought up a fan to propse to his girlfriend during the bridge of ‘Bleed It Out’. In 2014, The Hunting Party was the latest album cycle to get a performance at Rock im Park since the One More Light album and tour cycle was cut short. Like with most of the festivals on the entire world tour, the band played a shortened set in order to accomodate their timeslot, and while we might’ve missed out on a few rotation slots and solo sections… it sure was special anyway. Before the show even started the band played N’Syncs ‘Bye Bye Bye’ on the speakers before playing a teaser for their new movie Unshatter on the screens. After that they launched into the 25 year anniversary of the first time they played at Rock am Ring by opening the show with ‘With You’ and the same intro to the song they used back in 2001. As for the rest of the set it was fairly standard, the rotation spot for a LIVING THINGS song was gone. the Joe and Mike solo sections were gone, which sadly means we didn’t get a proshot of Emily on the drums. What we did get though was a 1-2-3-4 punch with the end of Act 2, because after ‘Two Faced’ the band launched into ‘A Place for My Head’, then ‘IGYEIH’, before ending the act as always with ‘One Step Closer’. ‘Bleed it Out’ closed out the main set with ‘Reading My Eyes’ verse 1 in the bridge, and the show ended with ‘Faint’. So we’re a few shows in now and can see a bit of a pattern. ‘Somewhere I Belong’ is now a Act 1 rotation song, with the possibility that it’s not even played at a show. Emily plays drums on the ‘Remember the Name’ part of the ‘Mike Solo’ section, and she also plays the samples that Phoenix previously played on ’Stained’. ‘Lost’ will probably stay in its shortened form for the rest of the tour and ‘Breaking the Habit’ is not a rotation song. After this show the bands goes back to three non-festival shows, first heading over to Austria for a show in Vienna, before heading to Munich for two back-to-back nights for their last two shows in Germany on the From Zero World Tour! Mike and Emily's clothing on With You 2026 really mirroring Mike and Chester clothing on Without You 2001 + the 2001 intro, this all points to that they really wanted to go all in for the "recapture the past" one-off tribute. But also really hoping they revisit it as a rotation song !
I'm hearing complaints of them being quite stuck in this cycle (not mine, I'm comfortable giving them the space they need to build new things), but some people is starting to feel like all of this (unshatter film included) is easy fanservice and no effort. Me: I'm here for everything they might do whenever they want.
