Linkin Park's European festival run continues with a stop at O Son do Camiño in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This performance marks the band's first show in Spain since Download Madrid in 2017 and their first-ever appearance in Galicia, bringing Linkin Park to Spain's northwest for the first time in their career. Santiago serves as the first of three Spanish dates, with a quick detour to Rock in Rio Lisboa before Linkin Park heads to Madrid for two nights at Auditorio Miguel Ríos on June 23 and 24.

Founded in 2018, O Son do Camiño has quickly become one of Spain's largest festivals. Held at the hill of Monte do Gozo overlooking Santiago de Compostela, the event draws tens of thousands of fans annually and has become a major contender for the European summer festival calendar. Linkin Park headlines Friday night's lineup alongside artists such as Biffy Clyro and Hoobastank.

Although Linkin Park have performed in Spain throughout their career, visits have been relatively infrequent. The band's first Spanish dates came in March 2001 on Deftones' Back to School Tour in Europe, where they served as one of the tour's opening acts. Linkin Park, Taproot, and Deftones opened up the Back to School Tour with three back-to-back Spanish shows: Madrid, San Sebastián, and Barcelona. Even then, as the band performed as a support act, Hybrid Theory was continuing to sell at a record pace around the world.

They returned during the Meteora cycle in 2003 for a headlining show at Madrid's Palacio Vistalegre in September. This was planned to be the third of three Spanish dates that year, but due to Chester's illness, two summer dates in Madrid and Barcelona were cancelled. It would turn out to be their only Spanish appearance of the album cycle.

Five years later, Linkin Park made their first Spanish festival appearance on tour for Minutes to Midnight, when they headlined Festimad Sur in Madrid in 2008. Technical issues with the festival's sound system delayed the start of the set by an hour, forcing the band's crew to deploy their own PA system before the show could begin. Still, the band went forward with a full show, opening with the long intro version of "No More Sorrow" and including songs such as "In Pieces" and "Cure for the Itch" from their deeper catalog.

Spain's next taste of Linkin Park came in 2010 to support A Thousand Suns, when the band performed in front of Madrid's Puerta de Alcalá as part of the MTV Europe Music Awards festivities. The performance was later released as MTV World Stage: Linkin Park and accompanied the special A Thousand Suns+ edition of the album.

Spain would then go without another Linkin Park appearance for the next two album cycles, until Download Madrid in June 2017 during the One More Light World Tour.

Now, nearly nine years later—and surpassing the seven-year gap between 2010 and 2017—the band is returning to Spain with three dates, opening with this date in Santiago before returning to Madrid. This will be the most the band has played in Spain since their debut days.

The European leg has largely settled into a rhythm after the setlist developments leading up to Rock am Ring, though some of us are still holding out hope for the return of "My December." The addition of "With You" to the rotation has been a surprising but welcome regular addition, rather than a simple one-off for Rock am Ring.

"With You" live from night one in Munich.

"The Emptiness Machine" opens the bands most recent performance in Lyon, France.

Linkin Park now closes in on the end of their tour cycle for From Zero, after some of their heaviest touring in quite a long time. After O Son do Camiño, only three more European festivals remain: Rock in Rio Lisboa, Firenze Rocks, and Werchter Parklife, alongside three headlining dates, ending with their makeup date in Switzerland in just a couple of weeks.
