ogg or mp3?

    I'm curious, which format is better?
    .ogg or .mp3?
    your comments will be very appreciated.

    i've heard of "ogg" but I've never had one on my comp so I wouldn't know. MP3 is obviously more popular buti'm not sure about filesizes and sound quality and etcetera.

    i have no idea what .ogg is.. but i prefer for .wma
    why? well.. if you download .wma.. it takes less time..
    and if you have a convert program you can easily convert it to mp3 :)

    Hmmmm...I prefer MP3 to be honest.

    Ogg is ok, but a lot of players don't accept .OGG files on playlists and aren't as compressed as .MP3 files are.

    .MP3 files are more widely used and available and in some cases sound better than a CD does.

    OGG files have a higher-quality sound but they're bigger than MP3 files and you can't tag them.

    MP3 will always be the champ.

    I heard they'd release a better MP3 codec soon.

    Yeah, MP3 is the best.

    And you lose sound quality. It isn't true conversion. It decodes the WMA to a WAV file, then recompresses it to MP3. Each time a file is compressed, you lose a bit more sound quality.

    Anyways, I've begun using AACs, because they have awesome sound quality and are smaller than MP3s. And file size is really important to me since I have a laptop and can't exactly add more hard drives in the future. Same with my iPod...Only a 10GB player and I need to fit as much as I can in that small space.

    BTW, for anyone interested in encoding AACs, check out Apple's iTunes which was just released for Windows today. You can encode and play in AAC format as well as purchase music from the music store. Cheap and legal :)

    Actually not. OGG Vorbis (.ogg) files have better sound quality than a 320kbps ,mp3, though in a MUCH smaller file size. However, yeah, you cannot tag them, and it needs a really strong computer to play them, since their decoding fom the player is really difficult.

    hmm with dppoweramp you can easily play them or convert them to mp3.. so you can tag 'em :)
