    Passage Through Starlight
    by Michelle Morine

Lilliana lived in Brouten, a small village near the sea. She had been waiting many moon cycles to qualify her to finally receive her wings.
In Brouten, it was considered the highest of honors as only a few among them had ever received their wings in the villages' history.

Lilliana, however, was determined, she knew in her heart that she was truly
a good and kind person. She believed with an unwavering truth that she would be chosen for this highest of honors.

One day, while walking home from a shop, she found herself straying from the path to her home. In the brush she came across a wild-like crimson red rose.
It was laying there in the soft grass as if it were softly saying to the world "love me'".
She couldn't ignore the power of the mesmerizing melody it sang and she leaned over and gently picked up this rose only to drop it suddenly as it's cruel thornes pricked her finger. The blood droplet softly landed on the rose petal.

The rose trembled and shook as it slowly transformed into this small woman-like creature. This creature unfolded her wings and stretched her long tiny legs, while running her fingers through her long pinkish hair.

The tiny lady said to her "Lilliana….I am the high fairy known as Saraela. It is known to us that you desire to become. We have chosen you, but first you must complete this task. You must find and return to us the goblet with the dragon's eye. All I can tell you of it whereabouts is that it lies somewhere between here and there and it is nestled in the nights sky." With that Saraela became what she had been before… the rose lying in the grass against the night.

Astonished in amazed wonderment, Lilliana began to acknowledge the events of what had just transpired. She was overjoyed with excitement yet also she was devastated by the fact that she would never find this goblet with the dragon's eye.
What was this goblet they wanted so badly? She began to wonder of the magical powers it must possess or was this simply just a test for her to pass they set as a standard for each youngling that is to become. It hit her suddenly and with a deep impact… How was she supposed to find where it is? Saraela had said that it was somewhere between here and there and that it was in the nights sky. She mulled this over in her mind for several hours without coming to the solution.

Lilliana was suddenly awoken from her thoughts as the sky became darker, even darker than it had been as the soggy rain began to pour down. She frantically scrambled to her feet and began to run in the direction that seemed like home.
She ran for what seemed like hours before becoming to drained to go on and then began to walk very slowly and very alone and afraid. She saw a small tavern off in the distance, she decided it was best to brave whatever dark that was there in order to escape her prison of the storm that chilled her to her bones.

Marveling at the unusual structure of this tavern, she managed to finally push open the large oval shaped door. Inside there was a large bar where several people were gathered drinking ale and laughing. She looked over near the fireplace and saw there three men standing near it dressed in black hooded robes tied with rope. One of them looked over at her and she noticed he had kind eyes yet also there was something sinister about them that she couldn't put her finger on. Cold and shaking from the storm she quickly made her way near the fire, near the strange man. She couldn't help noticing this man had kept his eyes on her the entire night until eventually he approached her and said: "My name is Loreik and I am a great mage of the 5th demension. I know of what it is you seek. It is called 'Passage Through Starlight' it will lead you to the goblet with the dragon's eye. To find it you must take this". He handed her a silverly-blueVenetian mask. Then he said: "You must use this to see it…you will find it near the waterfall by the woods just a few miles west of this place, consider this a gift from the mages and remember us when the wind calls".

Excited by this Lilliana made a mad dash for the door with her newly found discovery. She ran outside and barely noticed the storm had dissipated with the sun now shining down upon her. When she arrived at the location she was told she did not see what she thought she would…in fact, she saw nothing at all. She began to weep, wondering why this man would be to callous and cruel towards her. Hours passed, yet she refused to leave. The sun finally began to set and as it did a massive glass staircase slowly began to appear. Lilliana's eyes became wide with awe and as she climbed her first step her wings slowly became visible and she noticed red streaks forming in her long hair. She looked above her and she saw the goblet with the dragon's eye.
