Today, our school had an assembly for Remembrance day. The thing that makes me mad, is that we were asked to stand in respect as the student's council walked into the cafetoruim. My question is why - they didn't fight in the war, they didn't suffer loss because of the war, they just do the morning announcements and organize school events. I don't know, but this makes me mad.

You shouldn't have stood. They can't force you to stand up.

I agree with Bryan. You should not have been made to stand for them. They make us do that in our assemblies every week when the head master comes in ( a bit off subject but it is the general same kind of thing) ^_^

Yeah, they can't force you to get up. Everytime in the morning Announcements, they tell us to get up. My class doesn't get up though, we're all lazy adn don't ahve respect for our school. (Our school sucks) Next time, just don't stand. You have a right not to.

They played taps over the PA system today for Veteran's day, and after that the Pledge of Allegiance was said (for some reason) and I didn't stand up and recite it. I got yelled at but I didn't give a ####. They can't make me say the Pledge.

At my school, we just stand up to sing 'Oh Canada', then hear a presentation of Flander's Fields, have one minute of silence, then leave.

Our school made almost no mention about this... It kinda makes me mad because people who fought for Canada and other countries deserve to be remembered. But here, in Quebec, the fact that half of the province wants Quebec to be intependent messes up everything. As soon as it's a national issue, it's almost like it had never happened. But French-Canadians fought too and because of this sh*t they didn't get the recognition they deserve...

Neil : Agreed. This day should remember us we are all equal, we are all human beings, we can die, and what they show is that some people are superior...

You need to show respect to those who deserve it. But not for the student's council. It was like they were saying...that the student's council were better than us or something. The only way you can get into student's council is if you have tons of friends to vote you in. It's stupid.

Why would you wanna be on student council?!

"Hi! Let's devote our supposed to be free time to school!!!!"

No offence to anyone in student council. I just think it's stupid and kids only do it so they can either get into a college, or because it'll make their parents happy. There's no way that can be fun.

Usually we have veterans come in and hold their flags high and we have an assembly commemorating the war, followed by everyone walking up to a cross type thing and putting poppies on it. I didn't go this year but apparently there were no veterans, it was just INTERPRETIVE DANCING to "War, What Is It Good For". I heard about this and it sickened me, how disrespectful, that's why I didn't go.

That's what happened last year when the Drama class ran it, but they did a lot better ceremony for Remembrance Day this year. Some people were so goddam disrespectful though........

@ Neil: That's pretty sad....if I was gonna stand up, it would have been for the veterans....

@ Will: I AM SO GLAD Canada doesn't have a freakin pledge of allegiance!

Yeah, I refuse to stand up for the pledge. Mainly because I'm athiest and can't stand to say "under god" but also because I lost all respect for the government when we went to war in Iraq.

And student council is pointless, in fact, it's bad for those who aren't. I got a 27 on the ACT and couldn't give a #### about my school. Someone in student council for all 4 years of high school might only get a 20 on the ACT because they're all morons, but if we both applied at the same college, the student council idiot probably has a better chance of getting accepted
