Very very skeptical about what this could lead to. I find it to be pretty frightening. It just feels like a bad idea. What say you, fellow Americans, and others who are watching?

This whole debt-ceiling "crisis" is nothing but bullshit political theater. Yeah, they'll reach a deal before August 2nd, but you can bet your ass the middle and lower class will pay for it. "Blah, blah, blah, Social Security is just a handout. . . ." Go fuck yourself, you Ayn-Rand-worshiping dimwit.

It is a bad idea. The entire balance of the legislative branch is predicated on the separation of the two institutions because they both have very distinct and important functions: one combats the tyranny of the majority by empowering the minority to block legislation, and the other combats the tyranny of the minority. Without keeping these functions separate, there would be no mechanism to combat either danger.

    Pretty much this.
Although I'd say our country's process of checks and balances isn't perfect, this would only make it worse.

Yeah, pretty much how I'd explain it. A very careful examination of the branch-of-government tensions described by Baron de Montesquieu and Alex de Tocqueville say it well enough.
