Info: First of all I'm gonna ask anyone who reads this not to interpret these lyrics as condemming religion. These lyrics simply tell the facts that religion seperates ethnic groups which leads to several acts of violence that no religion would approve of under any circumstances. These lyrics were also designed to reach out to people to say that just because the people around them are of a certain religion, sexuality etc. it doesn't mean that they to have to be like them. People have to live their own lives without the guidance of what their familys, friends and media say is right and wrong. Anyway these are my first lyrics here in quite a while so enjoy. :)

    The Cost Of Heaven

Say your prayers to a loving god,
    To the omnipresent phantom
Who we’re told has powers beyond belief
Powers that we could not fathom
Does this almighty one look down from heaven?
    With angels by his side?
    Carefully observing and praising those
Who take in the teaching of a lie

Take these commandments and frighten man into submission
Nothing more than excuses for war and worldwide division
When will you open your eyes and realise peace has failed?
When will you stop adhering to fairy tales?

Believe what you want but don’t try to escape
The cold truth that these books exist to separate
Believe what you want but don’t waste your time
Living to the decree of an over processed lie

    Lie to yourself
    Lie to your own kind
To gain the approval of heaven…
    Heaven’s so far away…

No second coming in the 21st century
    As holy war is declared
The lord will surely approve of
A battle of your god and theirs
No more mercy to your enemies
The time is now to serve your dues
And with the good lord on your side
    You surely cannot lose…can you?

Take these texts and use them for bias and misogyny
Nothing more than a story told through the centuries
How can religion approve of genocide and bloodshed?
How can we be going to hell when we’re already there?

Believe what you want but don’t try to escape
The cold truth that these books exist to separate
Believe what you want but don’t waste your time
Living to the decree of an over processed lie

    Lie to yourself
    Lie to your own kind
To gain the approval of heaven…
    Heaven’s so far away…

Breathe in the air of a thousand year old curse…

We kill ourselves to prove we’re better. It’s humanity’s nature to eventually kill itself. Our religions, our partners, our children live in a 21st century built on the foundations of holy war…whole ethnicities collide with one and other until it comes to a point that we fear for our safety not only outside on the streets but in our own homes. Is this what its come to?

Don’t give into the teachings they force upon you
Only you can decide what’s good for you
Don’t give into the teachings they force upon you
Only you can decide what’s good for you

Believe what you want but don’t try to escape
The cold truth that these books exist to separate
Believe what you want but don’t waste your time
Living to the decree of an over processed lie

Believe what you want but don’t try to escape
The cold truth that these books exist to separate
Believe what you want but don’t waste your time
Living to the decree of an over processed lie

    Don’t give in…
Don’t give in to what they tell you
    Just live your life
    Heaven’s not so far away…

    Wow. Amazing.

One thing though, if you don't want to attack religion you shouldn't be repeating the fact that it's a lie the whole time. I mean, saying it is a lie (while a almost certain fact) is also an undeniable attack on it. Not that I mind attacking religion, as shown by the poem I just did with Chris and all. I just found it odd that you said you weren't doing so yourself, then writing the poetic equivalent of Nine Inch Nail's "Terrible Lie".

I loved the poem though regardless. Primarily because it seemed to attack religion with some factuality. Good job.

I really like it man. Some great work in there.

I like the pre-chorus (that start with Take these...).

Really effective. Keep it up :)
