To The Departed The breaking news, it fills my heart with sorrow We can only hope for a better tomorrow Lives wasted, families torn apart And I fear that this is only the start of it all I wish I could reach out to them I wish I could rewrite the past So I could see smiles instead of tears I wish I could stop this chaos I wish I could change it all So we can live in a world without fear This is to the departed To all who we’ve lost I can only pray your departures Open blind eyes to the rot Our society is falling Utopia was never further away For our children to have a future We must correct the errors of today Another’s lost to a gun, one hasn’t been found yet Little sister’s wondering why her mother’s so upset In time, I pray you realise How many hearts you’ve broken (it never had to be this way) I wish I could reach out to them I wish I could rewrite the past So I could see smiles instead of tears I wish I could stop this chaos I wish I could change it all So we can live in a world without fear This is to the departed To all who we’ve lost I can only pray your departures Open blind eyes to the rot Our society is falling Utopia was never further away For our children to have a future We must correct the errors of today This street never saw a crime This person didn’t have to die this way This funeral never had to be arranged This family never had to feel this way This weapon never had to be purchased This life wasn’t given for this purpose This note never had to say we miss you This song never had to have existed This is to the departed To all who we’ve lost I can only pray your departures Open blind eyes to the rot Our society is falling Utopia was never further away For our children to have a future We must correct the errors of today
Thanks very much. I think you'll find that in my lyrics I try to encorporate the necessary language and technique so that what I'm writing about can be interpreted in several different ways. In this piece my main focus was the rising amount of teenage killings there have been recently in the UK and how it's effected everyone including myself, however it could certainly be interpreted as a war theme song or possibly even suicide. Thanks for the feedback.
I guess i don't follow much over in the UK so I wouldn't really know, but i do agree that it could be interpreted in many ways.
